How do Varicose Veins form?

Answered by

Varicose veins form when the one-way valves inside the veins stop working properly. When these valves fail, blood has difficulty flowing back to the heart, causing increased pressure inside the veins. Over time, this pressure leads to enlarged, twisted veins and related symptoms.

Veins function in the circulatory system by carrying blood from the body back to the heart. Because this process works against gravity, veins rely on special one-way valves to keep blood moving in the correct direction.

When these valves stop working properly, pressure builds up inside the vein. Over time, this increased pressure causes the vein to enlarge and form varicose veins, along with related symptoms.
