Will my varicose veins come back after vein treatment?

Varicose veins that are properly treated are very unlikely to come back. Modern vein treatments have success rates above 99%. However, some patients may develop new problem veins over time, which can cause symptoms to return and may require additional treatment.

What is more common is the development of a new vein problem over time. When patients are evaluated, there may be several veins that could eventually become diseased, but only one or two may require treatment at that moment.

After treatment, patients may do very well for years. However, it’s possible that another vein that was previously healthy may later stop functioning properly, leading to new symptoms or new varicose veins.

If that happens, we simply re-evaluate the patient and treat the newly affected vein.
