What will happen if I don't treat my varicose veins?
If varicose veins are left untreated, venous disease typically progresses over time. Symptoms such as swelling, pain, heaviness, and visible varicose veins may worsen, and ongoing venous reflux can lead to skin discoloration, discomfort, and more advanced vein-related complications.
If venous disease is not treated, like many other disease processes, it will continue to progress over time.
Symptoms, including varicose veins, typically worsen as the underlying problem—venous reflux or chronic venous insufficiency—continues due to failure of the valves inside the veins.
This often leads to progressive symptoms such as worsening swelling, pain, and discomfort. Some patients may experience restless leg symptoms related to venous reflux, along with increasingly visible varicose veins.
Over time, untreated venous disease can also lead to skin discoloration and other changes in the legs.
