Answered by
Dr. Ray Rassai

Varicose veins develop when vein valves weaken and blood pools in the legs. Common risk factors include genetics, pregnancy, obesity, and jobs that require prolonged standing or sitting. Over time, increased pressure in the veins leads to vein enlargement and venous disease.

The most common risk factors that lead to varicose veins and venous disease include genetics, obesity, and a history of pregnancy.

Occupations that require prolonged standing or sitting can also increase the risk of developing varicose veins over time.

Still Relying on Compression Stockings?

For many patients, compression therapy can help manage symptoms but it may not address the underlying vein condition. Our board-certified vascular surgeons offer comprehensive evaluations to determine whether minimally invasive treatment is appropriate for you.
